Globo launches DTV+ services in Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Brasília, bringing next-generation television into consumer deployment in one of the world’s largest television markets.

  • Globo has launched DTV+ in Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Brasília, bringing VVC and MPEG-5 LCEVC into large-scale consumer television deployment.
  • The first DTV+ compatible consumer devices are now available, moving next-generation television technologies into consumers’ homes.
  • The launch provides a reference point for broadcasters, manufacturers and regulators worldwide evaluating the future of hybrid broadcast-broadband television.

LONDON, UK – 11 June 2026 – V-Nova today announced that MPEG-5 LCEVC has entered consumer deployment as part of the launch of DTV+ (TV 3.0) services in Brazil, one of the world’s largest television markets.

Globo has launched the first DTV+ services in Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Brasília, while the first DTV+ compatible set-top boxes and television sets are now becoming available. The launch marks the transition of Brazil’s next-generation television platform from specification and field trials into commercial deployment and provides an important real-world benchmark for broadcasters, manufacturers and regulators worldwide.

DTV+ is the world’s first large-scale television deployment built on VVC and MPEG-5 LCEVC, demonstrating how advanced 4K HDR television services can be delivered efficiently at national scale.

The first channels are delivering 4Kp60 HDR television services to consumers using indoor reception antennas at less than 10 Mbps, demonstrating how advanced television services can be delivered efficiently over existing terrestrial broadcast infrastructure.

Developed through collaboration across the Brazilian broadcast ecosystem, DTV+ combines the reach and efficiency of broadcast television with the flexibility of broadband connectivity, supporting UHD HDR picture quality, immersive audio, interactivity, personalization, targeted advertising and hybrid broadcast-broadband services.

A key element of DTV+ is the combination of VVC and MPEG-5 LCEVC, which allows broadcasters to deliver higher-quality services while making efficient use of available spectrum and infrastructure.

“For years, the industry has talked about the next generation of television. In Brazil, it is now entering people’s homes,” said Guido Meardi, CEO of V-Nova. “DTV+ shows that broadcast television can evolve into a 4K HDR, broadband-connected, interactive platform without abandoning the efficiency and reach that made television universal. MPEG-5 LCEVC was designed precisely for this kind of transition, and we are proud to see it moving into large-scale consumer deployment.”

Brazil is one of the world’s largest television markets, and the DTV+ rollout provides an important real-world benchmark for broadcasters, manufacturers and regulators evaluating how next-generation television services can be deployed at scale.

“The launch of DTV+ in Brazil demonstrates that next-generation television is not only technically viable, but commercially scalable,” said Robin Herin, Director of Technology & Standardization, Ateme. “It highlights how advanced compression technologies such as VVC and MPEG-5 LCEVC can enable broadcasters to deliver premium 4K HDR experiences efficiently, while supporting sustainable business models for the evolution of terrestrial television.”

“The launch of DTV+ this month marks a major milestone for next-generation broadcasting in Brazil, building on the successful deployment of the first lighthouse station in Rio 14 months ago, powered by VVC and MPEG-5 LCEVC on the Harmonic XOS platform. It also reflects a decade-long partnership with V-Nova, helping to establish what is now the best-in-class digital terrestrial television solution,” said Stephane Cloirec, VP Product Management, Harmonic.

Brazil remains one of the world’s largest television markets, making DTV+ an important benchmark for the future evolution of television globally. The rollout demonstrates how broadcast and broadband can be combined to deliver next-generation services at scale and is expected to be closely watched by broadcasters, manufacturers, and regulators worldwide.
