London & Shanghai, May 27th, 2025 – V-Nova, a leading provider of video compression solutions and Montage LZ Technologies, a global fabless provider of analog and mixed-signal semiconductor ICs, today announce that Montage LZ has integrated MPEG-5 Low Complexity Enhancement Video Coding (LCEVC) into its latest 4K Set Top Box (STB) System on a Chip (SoC), the Montage LZ Symphony 6.
The collaboration marks the first STB SoC ‘designed for LCEVC’, a major milestone in the evolution of next-generation video delivery. The decision to incorporate MPEG-5 LCEVC into the Symphony platform was driven by increasing customer demand for more efficient video delivery solutions as demonstrated by the inclusion of LCEVC into SBTVD forums TV3.0 and ATSC 3.0 Standards.

MPEG-5 LCEVC, the latest MPEG and ISO standard, is designed to enhance, not replace existing codecs, reducing both the cost and energy consumption of the transcoding process by up to 70%. It augments compression efficiency by up to 40%, with benefits that layer on top of existing methods to improve video compression.
The Montage Symphony 6 STB with LCEVC support will be showcased at Broadcast Asia, from May 27th to the 29th at Singapore Expo, where V-Nova will present live demonstrations of 4Kp60 video playback.
