Overview

The Consumer Device Licensing Program grants a single, convenient license to patents essential to MPEG-5 LCEVC - formally ISO/IEC 23094-2  Low  Complexity  Enhancement  Video  Coding standard.

The program applies for consumer devices which implement MPEG-5 LCEVC and offers license terms and royalty rates on a Fair, Reasonable, and Non-Discriminatory (FRAND) basis.

Royalty rate

A royalty is due upon the sale of a Consumer Device implementing MPEG-5 LCEVC. Royalty rates are based on volume of sales, according to the table.

A discounted Open-Access License applies when LCEVC is both:

  1. Enabled on the device for use with all media delivery systems and for enhancement of all video codecs supported on that device; and
  2. Accessible to any application that requires it, without any usage restrictions or limitations.

Annual cap applies to compliant licensees.

Subject to terms and conditions, a time-limited Early Adopter Incentive is available.

Do I need a license?

You most likely need a license if you sell any products that have MPEG-5 LCEVC decoding capability/functionality. Please contact licensing@v-nova.com to discuss your specific use case and application.

Any consumer device that has MPEG-5 LCEVC decoding capability/functionality requires a license. Currently, the program covers two categories of devices. More device categories are planned to be added in the future. If your consumer device is not listed in the current program, please contact V-Nova at licensing@v-nova.com for more information.

To obtain a license for MPEG-5 LCEVC, simply contact V-Nova at licensing@v-nova.com. Our licensing team will guide you through the process and provide all the necessary details about the license scope, applicable patents, and Royalty Rates.

If relevant, we can also discuss early adopter incentives to support timely engagement. Once terms are agreed, you'll sign a straightforward patent license.

If your company has not yet shipped products using MPEG-5 LCEVC, no past use fees will apply.
