MPEG-5 LCEVC Video Distribution Licensing Program

Overview

The Video Distribution Licensing Program grants a single, convenient license to patents essential to MPEG-5 LCEVC - formally ISO/IEC 23094-2 Low Complexity Enhancement Video Coding standard. The program licenses media & entertainment video services that use MPEG-5 LCEVC to distribute content for end-user viewing.

How it works

The program applies for any video distribution service which uses MPEG-5 LCEVC. Rates are calculated based on the size of the video distribution service. The size of the video distribution service is determined using three metrics to ensure fair treatment across different business models: average monthly active users, average monthly video subscribers or semi-annual revenues.

A Video Distribution Service refers to any branded media & entertainment service that transmits video content to end users over networks (e.g., the internet), primarily for viewing by individuals or entities other than the content provider. This includes services offering entertainment, social media, news, education, advertising, and more. Each distinct branded service is treated as a separate service.
